How to Determine Your Bangle Size
Unlike a ring, a bangle doesn't just sit around your wrist — it has to slide over your whole hand to get there. That means the number that matters isn't your wrist size, it's the widest part of your hand: your knuckles, with your thumb tucked in. Here's how to find that measurement at home with nothing more than a piece of string and a ruler.
Step 1 — wrap a string around your hand
Take a piece of string, ribbon, or a strip of paper. Tuck your thumb in against your palm, the way it naturally sits when you slide a bangle on, then wrap the string around the widest part of your hand — across the knuckles just below your fingers. Pinch or mark the spot where the string overlaps itself.
Step 2 — measure the string
Lay the string flat against a ruler and read the length in centimeters up to your mark. That number is your hand's circumference — the measurement a bangle needs to clear comfortably.
When in doubt, measure your dominant hand — it's usually very slightly larger, and a bangle sized for it will fit both.
Match your size
Bangle sizes are usually given as an inner diameter rather than a circumference, so here's roughly how the two line up. Fit can vary a little by style and thickness, so treat this as a starting point.
| Hand circumference | Approx. diameter | Typical size |
|---|---|---|
| 15.5–16.4 cm | ~2.0 in | XS |
| 16.5–17.4 cm | ~2.1–2.2 in | S |
| 17.5–18.4 cm | ~2.2–2.3 in | M |
| 18.5–19.4 cm | ~2.3–2.4 in | L |
| 19.5–20.4 cm | ~2.4–2.5 in | XL |
| 20.5 cm+ | ~2.5 in+ | XXL |
A few tips for a comfortable fit
If you like a looser, more relaxed fit — the kind that moves and catches the light — size up slightly. For a snugger fit that stays put, measure carefully with your thumb fully tucked and avoid rounding up. Hands can also swell slightly in heat, so if you tend to run warm, a touch of extra room is worth it.
